I enjoy watching both normal(?) sports and esports. One thing that always struck me was that normal sports had that heavy geographic trend that esports lacked. For example, when I moved to Adelaide, it made sense to start supporting the crows, buying merchandise, attending home games, etc..Whereas when watching esports the best I could do was support a Chinese or SEA team because they had the most similar timezone. So its interesting to have these sports teams expanding into esports and maybe providing some link to that.
I guess its still hard because the online nature of things means you are still in a sense competing for popularity with the elite teams globally, your players inevitably being compared with faker, iceiceice, and so on.And the AFL/NRL are pervasive in local media, are on free to air tv, etc..
