Riot is wasting little time when it comes to Valorant ‘s esports scene, announcing a suite of events across the world, dubbed the ‘Ignition Series’.
Friday, June 19 will see the first two events take place.16 teams will be taking part in Japan’s Rage Invitational, and if you’re looking for something a little closer to home, eight teams from across Europe will take part in the G2 Invitational. Those teams will be split by region, representing the UK, France, Poland, the Balkans, the Nordics, Benelux, Spain and Portugal, and DACH (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), all competing for a €15,000 (£13,400) prize.
More tournaments, including one in North America and another in Europe, are due to take place later this month, starting June 26, suggesting Riot is coming out of the gates pretty fast. That’s no great surprise – many of the kind of games that shape Valorant have established esports scenes, providing a pretty solid base to build a competition from. And let’s not forget that Riot also happens to run one of the world’s biggest esports ecosystems via League of Legends .Given Valorant ‘s somewhat sanitised approach to the tactical shooter, expect to see a lot more of its esports scene pretty soon.Tags: .
