One of the UK’s most prolific esports personalities says he’s stepping down from the industry. In a statement posted on Twitter earlier this week, Paul ‘Redeye’ Chaloner said his decision was fuelled by “attacks on my character.”
In a lengthy statement published last week, esports commentator James Banks accused Chaloner, as well as his agency, Code Red, of “threats/blackmail” against him.He also claimed that Chaloner had punched an employee at Gfinity when he worked for the company in 2015.Banks’ statement also features multiple accusations of verbal abuse against members of staff at a number of different events.
Chaloner responded to Banks’ accusations on June 27, stating that “the false allegations he has made against me are not something I can allow to go unanswered.” He denies the accusation of physical assault based on related court proceedings, as well as reports that he has attempted to squash these allegations from coming out in the past.
Two days later, Chaloner published a second statement .
In that statement, he reiterates his innocence. He says that “I might have been able to cope with all the shit being thrown at me (a mix of truths, half truths and falsehoods), but when my children were dragged into this, that went beyond any reasonable attack and became cruel and vicious.” He also states that “I will no longer be hosting esports events or continuing a public life within esports.
I have resigned as Managing Director of Code Red with immediate effect.”
